"Under the Roofs of Warsaw"
The competition entry aimes to inscribe the designed centre into a series of prominent Warsaw public buildings for which a roof is the most characteristic element. The competition proposal introduce a legible, functional separation of the Culture Center and Youth Culture Centre, contained in distinct, suspended volumes forming a constructivist expressive roofing over the ground floor entrance area. The ground floor thus arranged becomes an extension of the intimate public space adjacent to the Nożyk Synagogue and contains, apart from the auditorium, all publicly available functions as well as wide architectural stairs connecting all floors and levels in the building. The building, located in the incoherent urban fabric, attempts to combine various scales and soften contrasts through a stepped arrangement. Thanks to that measure the roof, finnished with accesible terraces becomes a visually attractive "fifth elevation" for nearby high-rise buildings.
